ACF-50 and inner tubes.
Am heading off to Slovenia on the Townmate in May and decided it would be useful to practice tyre removal. Discovered that the inside of the rims were quite corroded so doused in ACF-50 (which has kept my Honda NTV in almost showroom condition) but then decided to check on the 'net about whether inner tubes are OK with ACF-50. Lots of conflicting advice so I emailed the UK distributors. Their advice is emphatic that it must not come into contact with inner tubes....
Hi Andrew,
Thanks for your enquiry.
Yes – you will need to remove all traces of ACF-50 before fitting the inner tubes.
Use a solvent such as electrical contact cleaner.
Best Regards
Dave

Re: ACF-50 and inner tubes.
Good advice, likewise never use pvc electrical tape as a rim tape, it will cut into inner tube. Rusty rims best wire bushed to remove loose rust, treated with Kurust (or similar) and then paint first with a rust preventive primer, and a silver top coat.
Check it for further rust every time you remove tyre and re paint if necessary making sure paint is well dry before replacing tyre & tube.

Yes, am about to clean off the ACF which, from past experience, takes some doing. Will then apply Kurust and finish off with Hammerite. After that will tackle the rear wheel.
