Insurance recommendations

Post  M-Saveloy on Mon 1 Oct - 7:00

Hello there,

I've just bought a Townmate 80 (my first bike for years) for myself and the young lady to tool around on, and I'm wondering if anyone can recommend an insurer? I've put our details into the comparison websites, and got a best of 164 quid TPO for the two of us.

I'm 29 with a full bike licence. She's 21 on a CBT. Do you think we can do better?

Cheers!
Matt and Holly

Townmate Insurance

£164 sounds expensive should be nearer £60 fully comp. Problem looks to be be your age & your other half a learner. Try Peter James http://www.peterjamesinsurance.co.uk/ If he cant do better then you are probably stuck with it. He is has a good name for classic bike insurance, & usually is very competative on price

Townmate insurance

Yes, I thought it was a bit high. I ran the same quote through the comparison websites without Holly on it, and I get something like 100 quid Fully Comp rather than 160 TPO, so it looks like she's the liability.

I tried Peter James, but they don't cover learner-riders. Any other favorites out there? The oft-mentioned Carol Nash are quoting me silly figures.

The other one is Footman James but I think they will be about same as Carol Nash. Looks like you are stuck with a high premium because of a learner driver on the policy.

Learner Insurance

Post  M-Saveloy on Mon 1 Oct - 22:45

Yep, but instead of comparing it to the sort of rock-bottom prices people on these forums mention, I'll just have to imagine what it would cost to insure a 21yo learner on a car policy instead. Yikes!
