I'm having a problem with gear changes in particular neutral to 1st.

The scooter will not set off without stalling unless I give it a decent amount of throttle and is certainly not smooth. It also makes a loud clunking noise that is quite worrying. It makes the same noise when shifting from 1st to 2nd. The bike responds and seem to run very nicely when actually in gear.

I'm wondering whether this is a problem with the clutch plate and I'll need to replace it, has anyone had any similar problem and would care to shed some light on what I can do to fix it?

I briefly mentioned something about this in the hello section, I now have the correct oil in it.

Cheers, Tim

Sounds like the clutch push rod needs adjusting, 6mm slotted screw & locknut under rubber grommet on generator side. Slacken lock nut, screw in clockwise till it stops, then back off screw 1/8 to 1/4 turn & tighten lock nut. This is well explained in the Haynes Manual

Thanks for that John, I'd just ordered a Haynes guide from ebay. So I'll have a look as soon as I get it.

I adjusted the clutch push rod as you described, seems to have done the trick. Cheers for the advice, hoping to have her on the road sometime next month.
