Hi John,

I can understand it is probably a silly price to pay but in my opinion, the idea of buying NOS parts is to restore back to original factory condition as much as possible without resorting to using aftermarket or second hand parts. The FUZZ shocks might well be a much better option as far as performance and price go, but if someone is restoring their Townmate back to it's original showroom condition and are committed to doing it right, they will not settle for anything other than genuine NOS parts, no matter how inferior in performance they may be compared to aftermarket parts which rarely is the case. Considering the price of one shock from AJ Sutton at £101.54, two for £72.00 GBP is a bargain.

I see it here in Australia with NOS Ford parts for muscles cars of the 70s. Crazy prices but people still buy them even though alot of the parts are available as aftermarket and if a part is not available at all, a NOS part will fetch big money.

Cheers, Frank

Whats the point on restoring a Townmate back to showroom condition, its just an old bike & never going to be a collectors classic like some of the old brit bikes (Vincent Brough BSA Triumph Norton etc. just & good cheap usable bike if you have a supply of parts to keep it running. I use mine as everyday transport & have loads of used parts, its far from prestine & hand painted but gets me around. I just cant see the point in restoring one to showroom condition so you are afraid to take it out other than on dry hot summer days. Its just a stupid fad that is happening now which then puts prices up for those of us who just want to use the bikes for what they were intended. If it was not for these restorers paying silly prices to the likes of A J Sutton the price of parts would fall & we would all benefit.
