I decided I wanted a Townmate after having had brilliant Yamaha QT50s, a 1982 and 1986. I still have the 1986 model.

I asked around and got an amazing deal: A 1984 T80 for £100 with all paperwork, only 12,500 miles, bill of sale, manual, the lot! Bought from a retired policeman in West Sussex.

So far, put new oil in it and fitted a new plug. Not tried to start it yet but it all looks good for its age. It has the usual rust around the rear/under mudguard which I must treat sometime but it has not gone deep at all. It should pass an MOT I would think.

Looking forward to going faster now and in more comfort!

Just goes to show there are still bargains about if you can find them, a Wanted ad in you local paper is probably a good way of finding one. There must still be lots around in sheds where elderly owners have packed up riding. Many of them will not be on eBay so will be 'imune' to current eBay prices & would be glad to get rid of them particularly if they are moving to a smaller house or retirement flat.

Yes indeed, that sounds like John who sold me it. He lives in Westergate.
