Choke and Warm Up Time? Empty Choke and Warm Up Time?

When I start my T80 with its choke on, it revs quite hard as is common to most engines. If I try and reduce the choke after say 10 secs, the engine will die.

Obviously, I am loathe to put it into 1st gear with it revving like a dragster.

How long do your bikes take to warm up to the point when you can turn off the choke?

I let my t80 warm slowly .. just kick , no throttle and it slowly ticks over, maybe dies out but just start again..ten or twenty seconds an it can take some throttle then ride off..most engine damage occurs from cold start up time so with that in mind you should be concerned.
Also my choke cable isnt the best,it sticks an is a pain to free up....

The choke on a T80 (or T50) is not connected to the throttle so you must have another problem. Check there is not an air leak between carb & engine. The small vacuum tube between manifold & petrol tap may be split. Normal warm up is only a short time, by the time you have got into top gear you should be able to take off choke. Like Frankie1 I dont use the choke only in extremely cold weather

Thanks for the tips.

I think there are a few further bits to tell you. My bike was laid up for about 6 years until late last year. I only rode it a few times last autumn before taking it apart and doing some restoration. I left a small amount of petrol in it.

Put some fresh in a few months ago. Again, only rode it once this year.

I think my T80 would benefit from some fresher fuel and a long run maybe. Either that or to enrich the fuel mixture maybe.

Fender, These t80s are tough wee mini marvells, you leave it 6 years and it starts up with the same petrol !
ok it runs erratically but it runs..celebrate and splash oot ! service the carburetor..detach carb, remove float bowl, clean pilot and main jet .. clean it out in there..it will be minging ! you'll be amazed at the difference it makes..dont mess about with mix settings..an take johns advice , check for possible leaks..perished o rings..loose bolts..etc etc
flush fuel tank..get rid of the water
