Chinese cub parts - would they suit a Townmate?
Hello. New to the forum, I own a SuperCub 110 but also have my eye on a Townmate as they come up for sale, but a little concerned about the spare parts situation. I've not acquired the Haynes Yamaha manual as yet (plenty available and they are so very useful) so have not had a chance to study the exact mechanical specifications, dimensions or service requirements of the Townmate.
As you probably know, the Chinese and others in South East Asia produce a lot of copy-parts based on the Honda originals (some say they are the Honda originals - indeed for sale on Ebay today there are genuine Honda-branded chain & sprocket sets, made in Viet Nam!) and such parts can be an economical way of keeping a budget bike running. I was curious then, as to whether anyone has experience of utilising any of them on their Townmates. I'm thinking of things like cables, brake shoes, front fork parts and other service items etc. I read on here recently that someone was really struggling to find a replacement carburettor for their Yamaha. I've just bought (on Ebay) a very nice Chinese Kei-Hin copy carb' for a C90 for under £11 (!!!) and if by chance that fitted a Townmate would not that be useful. Perhaps also, electrical parts and other items.
I know some owners may well want to keep their bike totally original and possibly at any cost, but that's not me!
Any thoughts?

Honda Cub parts (original or clone) wont fit a Townmate. Most of these Chinese & third world made parts are crap, and are dangerous to fit. Always use reputable parts from original manufacturer.

That does sound a bit like the 'Jap Crap' response from the dying UK motorcycle industry in its 1960's/1970's death throes!

I recently bought a 12 volt rectifier made in China or otherwise ROC(Republic of China) /
It burned after two weeks and destroyed the coil as well.
When I opened it up, when I removed the package on the back, I found only a single diode and no trace of regulator or voltage limiter.
I'm not going to buy spare parts from China again.
I would prefer used genuine if there is no genuine.
