Any of you guys added any performance upgrades to your bikes?
Ithismay be frowned upon here but i've added a larger bore pit bike exhaust and a 22mm carb, I've gained a lot more power in doing so. I will add pics too if anyone's interested?

I'm now looking for a big bore cylinder and piston kit but no luck, so I'm wondering if anyone here has bored out the cylinder or know of it ever being done? and if so who and what piston I can put into it that can maybe take it up to 90cc.

Yes Mike i would be interested in your upgrades with pics !
I looked into bigger piston but really the barrel cant be taken out much the liner is too thin...i use the standard carb and airbox ,removed the choke flap , junked the filter for a hiflow motocross one and use an iridium plug every addition was an improvement
tho im sure my modified c50 pipe is too restrictive but its quiet and i like that ! Very Happy yeah the bike goes well nippy enough

Thanks for your reply Frank,
I've discovered that the Yamaha Raptor 80 quad uses the same engine and they have been known to bore them out to 93cc which is a 4mm oversized piston. That must be right on the limit of the sleeve!
I can imagine that would give some pretty decent gains though as that's over 10% increase in CC's. But it won't come cheap. Something I'm considering though.
Yeah I expect your c50 pipe is restricting your bike, my biggest noticeable gain came from my upgraded exhaust, it sounds loud but it's awesome!
Not sure how to add pics up here, can't seem to do it on my Phone, I will look into it.

Yes Mike i also have recently got a barrel from a yamaha quad that fits the t80 it was a yfm i think..called a "grizzly" but the liner is no thicker than townmate,it looks identical. Also see that plus 1.50 is about the limit for oversize pistons but the 12volt c90 is identical and they are available up to +2.00 . Was interested in seeing how you adapted inlet manifold to fit 22 mm carb..i also forgot how to post pics on here, its been a while!

Rather than increase the capacity the best course of action would be to tune the standard engine, ie bore out inlet port & polish, make up a less restricted inlet manifold & exhaust & fit a larger carb. The problem with overboring is that it will put the balance factor out thus causing vibration, and without further tuning will probably not result in much of an increase in performance. One other thing to bear in mind is that the overall gear ratio cannot be altered so its not possible to gear the bike up, any increased speed through tuning will result in increased engine revs.

Hi john, yeah I've already added a larger carb and a less restricted inlet manifold as well as a less restricted exhaust pipe.
I'm actually building a bike to compete in an off road charity moped 5 hour race, as it's off road the top speed and no way of gearing higher isn't really an issue, it's more low end power I'm looking for.
I know the townmate isn't designed for this usage but that's the idea of this event, it's to build a project from a moped that was designed and built for the road.
Raced it last weekend and she lasted the full 5 hours with my mods so far and we came 6th out of 50 bikes.
The cub90 and townmates were killing all the scooters!
Just looking for a few extra tweaks now in time for next years race!
Now you really wanna see my pics right!!? Haha

Mike , I see what you've done with the manifold, nice neat job too, cheers
we also are racing an endurance 6 hour bike this year , ran a c70 that blew its engine last year so may have a change..
but for the road bike i'll try the exhaust , as you advised its the biggest improvement of all , got 3 exhausts here to try pit bike, modded standard and custom race pipe, if your interested i'll let you know what works, Cheers , Frank

ps thanks for the pics !
