Got round to fitting one of Motor Cycle Products T80 exhausts today. http://www.motorcycleproducts.co.uk/exhaust-yamaha-t80-1983-97-p-166427.html
It was not a straight forward fit.
1) Had to file the slots longer in rear fixing bracket on bike as studs would not align. Had to put a few washers as spacers on front stud.
2) The boss that goes into cylinder head is longer so I had to make up two longer studs, Took opportunity to make them out of stainless.
Generally the system is good quality & has the tapped bushes to fit the Yamaha heat shield on front pipe, again fixing holes needed elongating in heat shield to align up. Its a bit noisier that the standard Yamaha silencer but nice throaty sound.

Hi John, i've also got the same exhaust system still in it's cardboard box, ready to fit after frame strip down and respray. Nearly finished restoring my Suzuki gt380 then i start on the Townmate. I notice that the joint between the down pipe and silencer is painted silver, is yours the same?

No mines fully chromed, looks like the error has been spotted and the pipe has been lengthened & re welded.

Does anyone make an exhaust that does not need work to make it fit?
I get annoyed when things don't fit, as its as easy to make it right in the first place.

Yes Yamaha genuine replacement BUT they are £215 https://www.yamahamotorcyclespares.co.uk/genuineparts/9063/8/yamaha%20t80%20townmate%2083-94/exhaust?uID=0
as against a pattern one @ £45 that may need the bracket holes elongating.

Thanks John, I built a Triumph T100C some years ago and many of the pattern parts I paid good money for were not even close to fitting, the pattern exhaust on my T80 has a fair amount of GumGum on it so I'll replace it, and practice my Dremel skills.
Cheers

I found the pattern Motor Cycle Products T80 exhaust http://www.motorcycleproducts.co.uk/exhaust-yamaha-t80-1983-97-p-166427.html of good quality & it was easily modded. The bike goes very well with it, nice deep throated sound & the exhaust seems very free flowing.
