Finally got one....
Hi folks,
I finally got myself a Townmate after looking for a while. They're not that easy to get hold of here in N. Ireland.
My uncle used to have one 30 years ago and thought I'd like to have a go at fixing one up as c90's are too expensive for what they are.
Saw one advertised and went to see it, unfortunately it was only a T50 but he said he had a good T80 engine to go in it.
Went to see it and although it had been painted red when it was supposed to be Silver(?) I bought it and brought it home.
Started to strip the 80 engine only to discover there was a hole in the bottom of the barrel where they appear to break fins and rot away so have now ordered a 72cc barrel and piston kit to put on the 50 engine.
Debated whether to put this on the 50 or the 80 engine but after looking at the 50 engine it is starting to go the same way so it will have to be done at some point and at least it will maintain the original engine / frame numbers.
I will be looking for a decent 80 barrel and l/h outer crank case if any body has any so will check out the for sale section.
looking forward to getting this fixed up and back on the road.
Al.
