T80 carb issues
Hi.
Have ultrasonic cleaner my carb/full strip down after it running poorly. Reset all settings and all sealed well..thanks hylomar!
It still is a poor starter..takes quiet a few kicks for it it come to life..choke does nothing. When it starts it kind of splutters to life and ticks along tiny bit of smoke out of the exhaust so poss over rich is my thinking. If open throttle quick it bogs down.
Leave it a few minutes to warm up and runs perfect then.
Any ideas of what could be wrong or to rectify. Tried the fuel/air ratio and set once warm and high tickover.
Thanks.

Re: T80 carb issues
If the choke does nothing then the spring (under the plastic cap) is probably broken. This puts tension on the butterfly valve to close it. but allows it to open after engine has started, rather like an automatic choke. New springs are not available and it can be fiddly to repair.

Re: T80 carb issues
Check and adjust both inlet and exhaust valves. I had the same problem years ago. Adjusted the valves to within spec and it started and ran perfectly. When the engine is cold you have different clearances to when the engine is at operating temperature.
Valve adjustment on the Townmates needs to be done often if it is used as a daily commuter and this is a way the bike letting you know it is time to adjust them.

It does not start when cold or hot?
Do you check compression and have you adjusted the valves properly?
