Binding Brakes on T80 Empty Binding Brakes on T80

On my home from work I felt not all was well, as I found it harder to make progress. When I used the front brake I realised they were already on. Then they released and a little later they were binding again. I stopped and could hardly move the front wheel. I was close to home so I limped back. When I checked the brake shoe wear two weeks ago they was about 30% left.

Any ideas as I'm not very good with a spanner.

Cheers

Steve

Binding Brakes on T80 Empty Brake shoes

You need new brake shoes, they are on the limit of the cam thats why they are sticking. There should be wear indicators (pointed bits of metal) on the inside of the brake arm, if these go 'off the scale' when brakes applied that will confirm it. Have a look on eBay for brake shoes plenty on there. Only about £8 inc p&p http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/YAMAHA-T80-T-80-TOWNMATE-FRONT-BRAKE-SHOES-/180968273032?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item2a228cb488

Cheers John

Got it booked in this morning for new shoes and to get the final drive greased as it probably has never been done and the bike has done 9k miles.

Binding Brakes on T80 Empty Brakes binding

Post  stevepb Sat 13 Oct - 14:03

Just got back from the bike shop. New brake shoes only £5.30. They greased the final drive as it should be done every 10k, topped up oil and checked the whole bike over. Total bill £63. I'm useless doing stuff like that myself, at least I know now all is fine. Im going to change the oil with Castrol 4t soon..
