Jumping down gears
Hi
My T80 has started jumping down a gear when accelerating which can be pretty scary when jumping from 2nd to 1st and has nearly caused a few crashes. Any advice on what might be causing this?
Thanks
JD

Re: Jumping down gears
Looks like you have serious wear in the gear change mechinism, detent plunger or gear pinion dogs worn. your best bet would be to buy another engine unit, usually some on eBay, as to repair yours would cost serios money in new parts alone. This to my knowledge is not a common fault with the T80
There are a couple of engines on ebay now http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yamaha-T80-Townmate-Engine-11549-/140750398848?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts_13&hash=item20c560a580

Re: Jumping down gears
Just one thing before you change the engine unit, I wonder if your heel is resting on the gear change pedal & when you accellerate it moves the pedal & changes down gear. If so repositioning the gear leaver may solve the problem.
