T80 Ignition units
hi Guys
I am currently checking out the ignition system on my 1985 T80 due to loss of sparks, and initial tests indicate the CDI unit has gone walkabout ?
Checking AJ Sutton's costs etc almost caused a swoon ?
Is there an alternative supplier of new units at sensible prices that members have come across? I am no stranger to electrickery, but it makes sense to ask.
Cheers

T80 Ignition units
Hi guys
Panic over as It may have been no more than pesky ethanol residue on the plug. I have had this on other bikes especially two strokes when a quick wipe with a rag did not necessarily dry the plug properly. Sometimes it can linger on some hours so it is a good thing to carry a spare plug anyway.
I would still welcome comments on CDI replacement etc.
Cheers

You could try this firm http://www.rexs-speedshop.com/epages/es143131.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/es143131/Categories/CDI_Units they dont list one for Townmate but could probably make one. Would still be around £85 though. Other than that secondhand ones come up on eBay from time to time.
This firm can repair CDI units http://www.carmoelectronics.co.uk/index.php?main_page=page&id=11&chapter=0

T80 Ignition units
hi John
thanks for the tips.
I have used Rex Speedshop before in my recent exploits with Hondamatics - a good lad to talk to.
The other people I will make a note just incase. Looking at the T80 scheme it looks straight forward so I suppose providing you were handy, something could be pieced together. I would imagine many manufactures use the same engine charateristics in this size of motor, anyway there is no point in re inventing the wheel everytime.
thanks again
Steve
PS I have sorted the rear drive problem - see T80 Transmission note

One on eBay now
There is a used but tested one on eBay now for £29.99 'buy it now' including postage. They dont come much cheaper than that https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yamaha-T80-Townmate-35T-Igniter-ECU-CDI-Y20038/112949895848?hash=item1a4c56a2a8:g:lGkAAOSwjpRasUxp
Worth buying as a spare, but worth checking with seller that it is from a T80 as part number on it 35T-MO 41006 is not same as the part No shown on Yamaha parts diagram which is 35T 85540 M1 but having said that the number of the one on my bike is 35T M1 9ZL I think the actual numbers printed on the CDI vary, but ensure it is headed 35T and not 22F which is the T50 one. The T50 CDI with not work on T80 and vise versa.
