Chain Drive
I eluded to something that has left me a bit confused in my "Say Hello" message last night: https://yamahatownmatet80.forumotion.co.uk/t1242-hello-from-a-new-sign-up#4893
I used to have a Townmate for the beach when I was a kid, and I was 99.999% certain up until last night that it was a T80 but... it was chain driven, and last night after about an hour of Googling I could not find a T80 that was chain driven. Only shaft driven!
My bike was definitely a Yamaha (Not Honda) and it was Steel Grey like the one I have now, but it definitely had a chain, because that is what finished her off in the end. It had a swing arm at the rear and the wheel was held on with an axle, and it was the U-shaped slots in the swingarm/frame that held the axle back and kept the chain tight with a couple of screw in adjusters that disintegrated with rust.
As well as I can remember the T80 I own now is identical in every way to the one I used to own, only my current one has a driveshaft. Was the T80 ever released with a chain drive? Could I have been running about on a T50 thinking it was a T80? Was the T50 available with a chain drive and in the same colour scheme as my bikes? Was I riding two bikes welded together? Have I lost the plot?
I'm hoping somebody can shed some light on this for me!

Re: Chain Drive
It would have been the older 'Mate' V50 V80 2 stroke chain drive. The Townmate was also made in 50cc size the T50 4 stroke 3 speed gear box shaft drive
