Hello.....just joined the forum and looking for advice.....................IWe have a great little 80cc Townmate which my wife finds difficult to start occasionally...................it feels like what would be a slipping clutch on a Brit bike,as though the kickstart wasn`t turning the engine over properly.....a bumpstart usually sorts it out.................Should I be looking at the clutch?..Geoff

Yes this question has been asked before. You need to adjust the clutch free play with the adjusting screw in the LH side casing just behind the flywheel it may have a rubber bug whch you need to remove. Slacken lock nut & with screwdiver ajdust screw to give 1/8 to 1/4 turn free play & retighten lock nut. That should do the trick. Also check that the oil level is correct as too much oil can cause clutch slip. Would be a good idear to buy a Haynes manual which covers this as well as ather adjustments.

You should not need to clean plates as excess oil would burn off after a time. If you are going to open up the case fit a new set of clutch plates, plenty of suppliers on eBay. Also clean the gauze oil filter at same time. Buy a new gasket as well. I assume you are using the correct grade oil 10W 40W

Thanks again, the starting problem only seems to be when the bike is warm. and the bike runs well enough, it seems to reach 45 to 50 mph, is this ok?...........I`ll have a look in a couple of weeks when I am less busy, ....Geoff

As long as the clutch does not slip under load thats ok. 50 mph is the normal top speed.

slipping clutch - maybe clutch Empty STILL K/START SLIPPING

Post  collector1967 Fri 5 Feb - 10:00

Hi all done the adjustment on t80 clutch , correct oil level etc but k/start still slips not all time, before i order plates is there anything else that would cause this, it just slips as if it had a normal clutch lever pulled in .

Many thanks Ian
