Chattering on idle, what is it?
Hi All,
I notice that when the T80 has been run and is at normal operating temperature, I can hear chattering coming from the gearbox area, I don't think it is the clearance of the valves and rocker arms.
Anyone know what it could be? Would like to know before stripping it.
Thanks, Frank.

Yes looks like too much slack in cam chain. In my experiance you have to put a bit more pressure on the tensioner than the spring gives.Admin drgaz wrote:could be cam chain ,John will have more of an Idea,
Remove sprocket cover
Remove tensioner spring cap
Slacken tensioner locking screw
Set cam in a position giving max chain slack & press spring & plunger in with finger
Tighten locking screw, refit cap & cover & job should be a gooden

Thanks heaps for the tip John, it did the trick.
It now sounds like it should, no chattering at all and it purrs like a kitten on idle.
Thanks again, Frank.

Put new o rings, springs and gaskets and adjusted accordingly and now it idles just nicely.
At least it is alot better than it was and with a little more tuning, should be good as gold.
Cheers, Frank.
