Engine Tappet Covers - where can I source
Hi Guys
Want to adjust the tappets on my T80 [slightly rattly] and the covers are
seized solid , so before I get all agricultural on them , want to source two new ones
or two very good second hand ones .... any advise .... will Honda ones fit ?
Plus ... with the rattling ... when do the timing chains need replacing ?
Cheers
Greg

If you use the right sort of spanner (like the one shown) you should be able to remove the existing ones, Make sure spanner is a good fit & squarely on the caps & give it a tap with a hammer. (You may need to file out a smaller spanner to fit as I did with the one in pic.) DO NOT USE an adjustable, open ended, ring or socket spanner. Ones from a Honda will not fit, if you need to replace them you will have to source from eBay etc as far as I know new ones are not available. A J Sutton have no stock. Cam chain can be adjusted see Haynes manual on how to do it, unless the engine has been neglected (ie oil changes not done), chain should be ok.
Not sure if these would fit http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yamaha-TTR250-Tappet-Covers-/330719031703?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts_13&hash=item4d0063f197 maybe worth asking seller.

You could also soak them in WD40 for a week just spray and leave if done every night and not used it will help, other wise run the motor up so it hot being careful not to burn your self on the exhaust down pipe will also help. gentle tapping with a toffee hammer will help break the seal.
And also every thing above what John as said is also sound advice
