I would wire it direct to battery via a line fuse. I think you will need a much larger battery to cope with the extra load, the standard one can hardly cope with the bikes own requirements ie flashers & stop light. Maybe fit a large battery in the top box (if you have one) or underneath on the rack. You could then house the converter in the existing battery box.

Maybe, try it and see, but headlight is on a separate direct AC circuit only works when engine running, the charging of the battery is minimal & will not sustain much more than a 1 amp load continuous load. Your Sat Nav my go AWOL if voltage drops when indicators, stop light or horn are used. You cant make a Townmate 12volt. As I say fit a bigger battery, even if for just those journies you need a sat nav, presumably you dont need it to find your way round local roads.

would it not be easier to use the app on your phone,or stick a 12 volt battery in the top box for the odd journey

i think the output is only 1 amp max anyway so wouldnt go over. what about putting it onto the light out put wire if more then the battery circuit? thats shame cant convert it to 12v. no its only for the journeys to meets so 200+ miles. if i wire the plug in would it charge my phone better then a sat nav? id have to make some sort bracket in my top box to hold abattery
