1987 Townmate Snapped just above Engine.
Townmate Snapped in half!
internally on the main frame tube. its warped and ruined the frame completely.
and lots of movement in rear swingarm.
you check the swingarm while parked up and its tight and good, once you get moving you can actually see the metal work of the frame all flexing around and the rear wheel moving around inside the rear mudguard!
I will upload pictures.
i described in another post where the rot was,. well it happened and the engine scrapped along the ground RIP 1987 townmate
had to get a friend to pick me and my bike up with his van.
on another plus point, I have a 1984 frame that has not much rot on it and i have its matching engine plate and a lovely chrome rear light and matching front lights.
so im really sorry to say everyone but there will be 1 less townmate on the howmany left next year.

Amazing that this got through its last MoT, that degree of corrosion did not happen overnight. Looks like the tester was a blind man or did not know what to look for on a Townmate. Lucky it did not cause a serious accident.

MoT exemption

MoT exemption is only for vehicles made before 1960 see https://www.gov.uk/getting-an-mot/vehicles-exempt-from-mot
There are plans to change this to 30 years old, see http://www.dft.gov.uk/classic-mot/latest-updates/ but that wont come into being until 2018 at earliest.
