Honda Cub Exhaust on a T80
It appears from an old post that it is possible to use a C90 exhaust on a T80. Is this true and if so do you need to do a lot of fettling. I have over the lat three months ordered T80 exhausts from 8 different suppliers on the net. all list stock but don't have one when ordered. or won't ship to Northern Ireland! Only need exhaust and bike will be set for MOT. (I hope)
Thanks,
Stevie

Re: Honda Cub Exhaust on a T80
Strange there are no T80 exhausts on eBay at this time, usually there are several suppliers selling them for around £37 plus p&p but from what you say they apparently did not have any stock, why has there been a run on them I wonder!!
The only one on at present is this rusty used one at £40 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/YAMAHA-T80-TOWNMATE-EXHAUST-/150982593498?_trksid=p2045573.m2042&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D27%26meid%3D6566531049133371967%26pid%3D100033%26prg%3D1011%26rk%3D4%26sd%3D271178950715%26 dont wast your money buying that.
If a Honda C90 one will fit Bustlers have them at £36.49 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-C90-Cub-C-90-Complete-Replacement-Standard-Silencer-Chrome-Exhaust-/270860657236?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item3f108da254#ht_1647wt_1136
I have used this company, they give good service, prices are competative & p&p cost low. I note the exhaust above is post free.

Did you have to modify the bracket thats bolted to the frame to get the two studs on the exhaust to line up?
A good tip when replacing an exhaust is to fit stainless or brass nuts to the two 8mm fixing studs on silencer, & also replace the two 6mm studs in the head with stainless ones. The originals rust & are difficult to remove.

C90 exhaust on Townmate
I have asked the question on http://www.realclassic.co.uk/messageswide.html & an owner on there also conforms the Honda C90 exhaust will fit the Townmate. Maybe you would send a feed back on how it fits.

Re: Honda Cub Exhaust on a T80
Hi It was a wile ago when I fitted it and hard to rememeber, if any thing I may have had to adjust the holes in the silener bracket but what ever was needed it was realy only miner the front studs where no problem.
I did buy a new pipe for my T80 it was listed as T80/T50 however no way in a million years would it fit, of couse it was for a T50 and thay have a shorter stroke hence nothing lined up.

No thats not so, T50/80 are both the same fitting (I have fitted genuine T50 exhaust on a T80). The problem was the T50 one has a restriction in it so the bike would do no more than 35 mph. & had to cut silencer open remove the restriction & weld it up again.
The one you had must have been faulty. The pattern ones normally fit both T50 & T80

Re: Honda Cub Exhaust on a T80
I just fitted a patterned C90 exhaust on my T80. It wasn't a simple bolt on, but with some work it does fit, quite well actually.
Here's what you would need to do:
Discard the C90 bracket as it will not fit.
The C90 exhaust has two M8 studs welded to the exhaust that mount onto its bracket, remove the front one and grind flat, as it will foul the rear brake mechanism.
Test fit the exhaust with the Yamaha exhaust bracket in place.
Mark where the remaining exhaust mounting stud touches the bracket, this is where you will need to drill an 8mm hole (I would recommend removing the bracket first).
Whilst test fitting, check that the exhaust manifold studs in the head are long enough (I needed to make a pair that were 55mm long M6 thread).
After that it should fit nicely and look just as smart as an original. Mine cost £34 delivered, I saw a rusty T80 exhaust for £65 on ebay...
Hope this helps

Re: Honda Cub Exhaust on a T80
Thanks for that detailed report John. It does mean though that the exhaust has only one securing bolt at the rear, but as the exhaust system is somewhat cheaper than the T80 one its worth the mod. I suppose you could weld on another 8mm stud to correspond with the Yamaha bracket. T80 exhausts are now back on eBay but over £50. I wonder why the difference in price for what is essentially the same silencer. Supply & demand I suppose, there being more Honda Cubs out there than Townmates.

Re: Honda Cub Exhaust on a T80
If ordering a c90 exhaust check that there is a rotating collar with the holes that secure it to the engine. With mine this was ok but I had to remove one of the rear studs as described above. I also had to remove a thing that looked like a centre stand stopper on the underside. Don't forget to fit a new exhaust gasket. The one I got was £24 inc delivery to Northern Ireland. Half the price of the T80 one.

T80 exhaust
Motor Cycle Products do the correct system for the T80 at £41.94 plus £3 p&p. I have bought one of these & they are good quality, & it came in a couple of days. Good supplier http://www.motorcycleproducts.co.uk/exhaust-yamaha-t80-1983-97-p-166427.html
The same one also fits the T50.
