Fuel Tap Weirdness!
I took off the carb yesterday to see if it needed a clean inside float bowl etc. I took off all 4 screws but the float bowl would not come off...am I missing something?
Before doing this, the first job of course was to turn off the fuel. What I found was that petrol gushed out irrespective of the position of the tap
Any idea what is wrong with it?
Thanks.

Looks like the diaphragm in the tap is split, petrol should only flow in the prime position with engine NOT running, repair kits are not available so you will need a new tap.

Re: Fuel Tap Weirdness!
can he not use the old tap the diaphragm is a safety feature and will not interfere with the performance or running of the bike,
unless the float sticks then it will leak all the fuel from the tank, having just said all the that of course the engine will run lean as its sucking in air from vacuum pipe!

Maybe but I think the diaphragm seals off the petrol side as well. It is spring loaded so may have stuck in the open position, or the O ring that seals off the petrol supply may have failed. Either way its a new tap, you cannot buy repair kits. It may be possible to fit a conventional 'manual' tap from another bike. Bit dodgy not being able to stop petrol flow. One like this should be ok http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UNIVERSAL-IN-LINE-FUEL-PETROL-TAP-MOTORCYCLE-5MM-/400669852811?_trksid=p2054897.l5676 it also has a fixing lug
