To what countries was the T50 & T80 imported?
Would be interesting to know what countries imported the Townmate. Obviously GB & Ireland & by the look of things Greece. But from what we have heard from other owners not France or Australia. It does not seem to have had the world wide sales of the Honda Cub.

It would also be interesting to know the total production of the Townmate's, year by year if possible.

Barker, the bikes you refer to were 20 years earlier, when were you a teenager, 60's 70's or 80's? When i was in my early teen's i remember cycling down from lyminster down to the cafe by the railway station in Littlehampton just to ogle at the Rockers bikes parked outside, Dominator's, Bonniville's, Crusaders, probably just ridden down from London, this was about 1960, good days to be a biker.

I don't know about the situation in Greece, but in the UK the date of manufacture is printed in a registration document called a V5 or log book, issued with the vehicle from new. Hope this answers your question.

My other bike is a Honda Transalp XL650V2, date and country of manufacture is at VIN.
I assumed that maybe something like that happens and with my T50.
Thank you.

Re: To what countries was the T50 & T80 imported?
I emailed Yamaha UK a couple of years back enquiring about the number of Townmates sold in the UK. I did get a response from them saying that approximately 11,000 T80s and 1,200 T50s have been sold in the UK.
I remember renting the T50s and T80s in Greece when I was on a working holiday in Samos in 1992, 1993. At that time the automatic scooters were becoming available and more popular with the tourists. The Suzuki Address V100 was all the rage in Samos I remember and the Townmates were always the ones that were left behind in the shop. No one wanted to ride them. Not powerful enough. The Suzuki was 100cc, 2 stroke and they were awesome to ride even with two on board. From what I have seen so far, the Yamahas were called Townmates in the UK and Greece and in some eastern European countries but they were known as a Yamaha Mate in Asia. Now which particular countries, I don't know but nowhere near the reach of the Honda Cub. Definitely no Townmates were ever sold in Australia but I must say I have seen the odd V80 in the classifieds and a few more Honda Cubs but the older pre 80s models. I did see one Yamaha dealer in the country had a couple of NOS V80 frames. Interesting!
