Hi everyone, I've spend some time on this forum before I've start enquiring . I'm a 3rd owner of Yamaha t80 1984. It has not been running for a long time not sure how long but couple years definitely, I got it running after spending 200 quid on essential parts: new battery- £40, new front tyre-£40, manifold- £10, front brake lever- £7, front mudguard and fuel tap- £15, whole air box with filter foam - £20, front forks repair kit - £10, I had to take front wheel to the specialist to be straightened - £30, new flasher rely- £10, oil and engine flush - £15,  I want count MOT fee, and the helmet. After all he passed its MOT without a problem, however day after test indicators start playing up like before. Only before the right side both flashed and left side didn't work at all. After little digging the subject I've found out it's the broken level cause the rear light to be constantly on, and failure in indicators (I've checked all earths).  After lever replacement everything worked perfect. After short ride the indicators stayed on when pressed, without flashing, and I've just noticed the flasher is heating up, and I'm afraid it maybe something to do with voltage regulator, as the head light and rear works fine when running. Also I have running cold problem, but I'm going to replace fuel tap, witch I haven't done yet, as mine was seller tapped  and it might be the fault, off course need to check for any air leaks, and petrol pipes. I know now the test station in Norwich don't have bloody idea about making an MOT test as they failed me on wobbly wheel, and stiff steering, and after I've fix these things they failed me on front fork bearings/bushes. And they didn't grease them up as I've asked them to. So lucky to be alive. lol!

Yep these pattern flasher units can play up so could be faulty, also check you have the right wattage bulbs, these should be 10 watt. Also as has been mentioned good earths are needed.
The indicators are a poor feature of the Townmate, & really dont work that well even when everything is right. Engine needs to be running to get them to flash at correct speed & and at any intensity, & they dim & go slow when brake light is on (as you have found already) They really need up grading to LED but as most of these work on 12 volt they wont work on the 6 volt Townmate.
