Re: front brake hub spings
so when I got to his place I had a look at the front wheel , most surprised to see that the hub had moved around, the lug on the arm had jumped out of the grove in the brake plate

The 'boss' on the link arm is steel so I would not have thought that would wear, more likely the groove in the brake plate.

Re: front brake hub spings
that's very true john , so I took the front wheel out to check it the speedo drive had snapped about 2 inches from the wheel, cleaned it all up must admit the boss does not look damaged nor the hub, only thing I can think is the wheel was not put back properly when I had a new tyre
any one got a speedo inner cable

Looks like the boss was not located in groove when wheel replaced, lucky it did not cause an accident. Others be warned

Re: front brake hub spings
well my idea of just popping the inner cable in the old outer was a non starter when it turned out to be to short.
what a pain fitting the new cable, in the end I took the front off took the brake cable out of the stem dropped the speedo cable down the tube then the brake cable put the wheel in checked that the speedo worked and tightened everything up couldn't road test it as it was getting dark

Re: front brake hub spings
I've taken a zillion pictures of the bike during the stripdown so hopefully it won't be an issue. The paint has arrived, "Metallic Rocco Red".
