Hello hello,

I've got an old T80 townmate I'm putting back on the road at the moment. I said hi on this forum a few months ago when I bought it, but illness forced it onto the back-burner over winter.

Anyway, she needs a new front tyre. Has anyone had a good experience with any of the cheaper brands available on-line? Are there any to avoid?

I've been fiddling with the front brake for the MOT. After squeezing, the lever doesn't quite spring all the way back out by itself, so the brake light stays on.

I removed the cable and discovered that it was awfully stiff. Plus, if I pull on the bottom end, it jams up before the top end barrel hits the sheath. I've dribbled a lot of WD40 down it and waggled it for hours, but to no avail. Is there anything else I can do to bring it back to life, or is it time for a new one? They go for 10 quid + p&p on ebay. Is that about right?

Thanks for your help,
M-S

I use Bustlers Motor Cycle Accessories they sell this 250 x 17 front tyre whivch I have used http://www.busters-accessories.co.uk/productInfo.aspx?catRef=ECT1703 they also do package deals of a front & rear tyre, inner tubes & rim tapes.
As for cable, throw it away & buy a new one £9.99 on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yamaha-T-80-Townmate-1990-0080-CC-Front-Brake-Cable-/400384007280?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts_13&hash=item5d38bf1c70

I bought a cable from that very seller, and a few words of warning:

1) The metal cap on the top of the outer sheath would not fit into the recess on the lever mounting,

2) The inner cable was far too long for the outer, meaning even with the adjuster screwed on as far as it would screw, the cable doesn't achieve enough tension to fully apply the brake.

I also bought a new brake lever from the same seller, as mine is missing it's ball on the end, and the hole for the pivot bolt was too small.
