Oil filter mesh Empty Oil filter mesh

Post  marcopol Tue 15 Jan - 14:23

I have changed the oil on my 1996 T80 but no matter how I try I cannot remover the exhaust to remove the left hand engine cover to get at the oil filter mesh in order to clean it. The bike has 14,000 miles is it really neccessary to clean this or can I get away with leaving it as is.
Finally where can I get a side stand for the bike. None on Ebay.

Thanks

Its not too important to clean the mesh filter as long as you change the oil regularly, Yamaha recomend every 4000 miles but this is too long, I do mine every 1500. You will need to address the exhaust problem sooner or later though, I assume the nuts are siezed on the rear fixing.
I fitted brass ones to mine after cutting through the old steel nuts. If the studs are siezed on the cylinder head you may be able to get them out with mole grips when engine is hot. Best to replace them with stainless steel allen screws.
As for side stands, these were only fitted to the early bikes & are fitted to a bracket on the footrests, so you will need the whole footrest assembly keep loolking on eBay for early bikes being broken.
