Townmate CC increase
Hi All,
Does anyone have any suggestions on increasing the capacity of the T80?
I know this has been covered previously but would like to see if anyone has discovered any aftermarket bolt on goodies?
Took the T80 into work today after a long while and after being used to the SH150i, the T80 felt like it was 8cc rather than 80cc.
Looking at a YFM100 engine to retrofit, any suggestions?
Cheers lads.
Just thought you guys might like to know that after a couple of days around 30C, it will be sunny and 23C in Sydney tomorrow!

Yeh, go on, rub it in, it's 6C here and that's with the sun shining, too cold to go out in the garage to continue with the Townmate refurb

By the look of things the YFM100 engine will not fit a Townmate as the starter motor will foul the frame.

Couldn't you fit the barrel and cylinder head only?

Possibly but the YFM100 may have a longer stroke! (cant find any spec for engine) Is it worth it for around 20cc? increase in performance would be minimal, 5 mph may be.

Re: Townmate CC increase
the easiest way to make the t80 go faster is either use down hill routes or loose a few stone
mine does over 60 down a long hill well the speedo says so any way

Speedos are usually pretty accurate on the Townmate mine is spot on going through the roadside speed indicator signs
Its no good increasing cc unless you up the gearing, with no higher rear drive ratio's available that will be difficult.

Re: Townmate CC increase
You have to accept the Townmate for what it is = a low powered commuter bike, it's either that or sell it and get a bigger bike. Mine is off the road at the moment, completely stripped down for a refurb, and boy am i missing it's 50 mph charm.

Re: Townmate CC increase
At least you guys have the Sh300i which is a weapon. Honda Australia did bring them in to the country for a few years only, so they are rare here.
From what I understand they were too expensive for the Australian market and were difficult to move off the showroom floor and that is why they stopped at around the 2012 model.
But the good thing is, Honda will be introducing the SH150i here next month but only in two colours.
In terms of what it's like, I just upgraded from the 2008 model to the 2010 model that has the rear disc brake which makes a huge difference over the rear drum brake but it is an awesome scooter and worth every cent.
A couple of years ago when I was in Greece, I hired a new Sh300i in Naxos and I was hooked. Best scooter money can buy in my opinion!!!

Honda SH300i is fine for long distance work but expensive to tax in UK (£37 per year as against £17 for a sub 150cc machine). Also insurance would be much higher especially for younger riders. Fuel consumption no match either for Townmate or other modern 125 scooters like the Honda SH125. The SH300i is in another league, 125 performance is plenty for commuter/town work. Being 153cc the SH150i would attract the higher £37 per year tax, presumably why its not available on the UK market.

Re: Townmate CC increase
John, £37 tax to ride is dirt cheap compared to here. For the Honda I pay $131.00 (£80) per year registration which I assume is what you refer to as tax in the UK.
And this does not include, what we call, CTP (Compulsory Third Party Insurance) which covers you if you hit a pedestrian etc.
I'd be having a few Sh300i's if I was living in the UK.

Re: Townmate CC increase
The SH300 attracts much higher insurance over here especially for young riders who are also restricted to a 125 until they pass their test. The SH300 is more of a full blown motorcycle & not in the spirit of the Townmate. 125cc is plenty for a commuter step through.
