T80 new purchase
Evening all, have been looking for a honda cub in all honesty but came across a Japanese import 1982 model close to home. Have only collected this evening and never ridden a step thru before so cautious when I start. Have other old bikes and insurance due in a couple of weeks so will add to policy then to save any admin fee. It's in reasonable condition with only a small amount of surface rust here and there, just looking to have some fun on it and probably restore to as good as I can. Have done the superbike think in my early years and now enjoy my little bikes so much more now I am not worrying about speed traps and death, still have a 650 for bigger mileage but the small bikes are easier on old bones to move about and handle. Probably paid a bit over the top but not anywhere near the £1600 the previous owner paid to the importer, another plus is depreciation is likely to be zero.
Live on south coast btw!

Re: T80 new purchase
Thanks for the welcome, located midway between Portsmouth and Southampton, sèems I have done ok as 12v and electric start. Saves me going to the gym to beef up for the kick start! Hopefully can spend some time at the weekend giving it a good checkover before using, looking forward tomthe ribbing I will get from gs riding friends!

new T80
hi Oldman ?
I thought it was owned by Spider pig at first ( ask your grandkids?)
Having just replaced my rear drive gear set I wonder if this newer version has a modified bearing arrangement for the crown wheel shaft.
My replacement gear came from Greece as a T80 part but I had to modify one of the shaft dimensions to take the original bearing size on my 1985 bike.
Interesting Mr Holmes
good luck with your new toy
Cheers

Re: T80 new purchase
Will have to let you know on that front about bearings. Stripping the shaft is next on my lost but new shed/workshop has arrived and needs to be prepared before winter with power and insulation. Expecting a lack of maintenance as per the rest of the bike so far

You obviously have not been keeping an eye on the forum Barker, these Green 12 volt (electric start) T80's are old Japanese home market models being imported to the UK, not a new version. See this thread from earlier in the year. https://yamahatownmatet80.forumotion.co.uk/t1013-another-japanese-home-market-grey-import-t80?highlight=Japanese+home+market
