Hi All,

Has anyone gone down the path of having the original shocks on the T80 rebuilt? I know it is probably cheaper to get the aftermarket ones, http://www.motorcycleproducts.co.uk/shocks-yamaha-t80-1983-97-p-256818.html, but they are just the rear. What about the fronts? I am just asking as it will probably be a bit of a challenge in finding rears here in OZ to suit. Even though the ride on mine is ok, I do find it is a little too bouncy for my liking even though I have dialed in the rears to maximum. Motorcycle Products don't ship to OZ.

Cheers, Frank.

Neither fronts or rears can be rebuilt as they are sealed (welded) up units, the rears have no damping. Pattern rears are available in the UK as per the aftermarket supplier you have mentioned. The fronts do have damping but to my knowledge there is not a pattern replacement, so you will need to search out NOS (new old stock). There was a pair on eBay a year or so ago.

Thanks for the info and reply John.

One thing I am not sure about is that these advertised replacement shocks are 320mm eye to eye but the originals are 300mm eye to eye.

Cheers, Frank.

Hi Frank I am not sure of the correct length from stock but 300 they may be coil bound which would make them shorter?

Other wise the new 320 would make the bike sit higher good for that extra ground clearance! But might up set the steering geometry any thoughts on this?Any one done it? Gaz

These shocks are the same ones that Fuzz was selling before he moved abroad, several owners bought & fitted them from him & I dont recall anyone having problems. I have not bought any myself, still on originals & with a load of second hand ones in the shed am not likely to be doing so. The fronts do appear to be a problem with no new ones available from Suttons. Not sure if Honda ones may fit though.

Honda C90 ones wont fit as they are longer (245mm) with different hole size at bottom forked end. Townmate ones are 210mm long.

Looks like a bit of a challenge. Down here in OZ, Sydney anyway, the sale and use of scooters has exploded in the past few years mainly because of high fuel prices, traffic congestion, more people living closer to the city of Sydney and the lure of free parking for motorcycles in the city and surrounding areas. Because of that there is a wider variety of scooters out there now and they all have different size front and rear shocks so my best bet would be to take one front and one rear off the T80 to a motorcycle shop or breaker and see if anything would suit. Keep you guys posted. Thanks for the input.

I have measured them again and they are actually 310mm from eye to eye, so a 320mm shock wouldn't be an issue me thinks.
